(Two arrested at checkpoint)…It happened recently at the Highway 86 checkpoint.

The two were suspected of smuggling narcotics. The 2007 Chrysler, driven by a 53 year old man entered the checkpoint. The vehicle also carried a 51 year old female passenger. A Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the vehicle, and it was sent to the secondary inspection area. During the search, agents found 8 packages concealed in the liner of the woman’s purse. The packages contained methamphetamine. A further search resulted in the discovery of a syringe containing heroin. That was found inside a potato chip bag. The narcotics weighed 2.28 pounds with a value of $4,332. The driver of the vehicle was a US citizen. The passenger a Legal Permanent Resident. Both, along with the narcotics and vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
