U. S. Border Patrol agents say they are seeing an apparent trend in smuggling people in tractor-trailer rigs.

The latest incident occurred early this week when agents conducting surveillance on a big rig that was northbound on Highway 86. At the Border Patrol checkpoint near Salton City a canine team alerted to the cab of the truck and the driver was referred to secondary inspection. In the secondary inspection area , three people jumped out of the truck cab and tried to run away. Those three , two men and an unaccompanied female juvenile were apprehended. The driver , a 36-year old Mexican national was arrested. According to the Border Patrol , there have been at least 3 other incidents of human smuggling involving a big rig.
