(2 alarm structure fire)…It was reported Thursday afternoon.

El Centro Fire responded to the 1400 block of North 18th Street. They found smoke and fire coming from the rear of a single story, single family dwelling. A quick inspection determined the fire had spread to the attic and interior of the home. A coordinated ventilation of the structure and a cautious approach attacking the fire from the rear of the house helped keep the fire was spreading to surrounding structures. Fire crews had the fire controlled within 20 minutes. Six residents were displaced as a result of the fire. One firefighter received minor injuries. No civilians were injured. Calexico, Holtville and Imperial County Fire Departments provided mutual aid. Also responding was the American Red Cross, AMR Ambulance, the Imperial Irrigation District, Southern California Gas Company, City of El Centro Code enforcement and the El Centro Police Department. The scene was cleared at around 6:30 Thursday evening. The displaced residents were being assisted by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire was determined to have been accidental.
