(Border Barrier Project)…The Public Comment period has been extended.

US Customs and Border Protection has extended the deadline for public input concerning a new border barrier project in Imperial County. Comments will now be received through May 15th. They say the COVID 19 pandemic has created a challenging situation for stakeholders and the public to share key feedback to the CBP. Given the current schedule for some projects, the comment period may extend into pre-construction activities and border wall construction. They say all comments received will continue to be taken into consideration and will be used in CBP’s evaluation of environmental and cultural impacts and will be used to identify measures that avoid or minimize impacts to the greatest extent possible throughout the duration of the project. The project includes construction of about 11 miles of new steel bollard fencing. Comments can be submitted on the CBP website.
