(Arizona earthquakes)….They hit Sunday. The US Geological Survey says they were centered near Phoenix.
They say Phoenix does not experience a lot of earthquakes. They said it was also unusual that there was a pre-quake. At 9:00 pm there was a temblor measuring magnitude 3.2. At 11:29 a stronger earthquake, magnitude 4.2 hit. Twenty minutes later there was another one, a magnitude 4.0. Geologists say the temblors were not very deep. They were at a depth of 6.5 kilometers, or about 4 miles. By comparison, the Northridge quake in 1994 struck at a depth of more than 18 kilometers. No damage or injury has been reported, though several residents were shaken-up.
