(Preliminary collision report)…The collision occurred early Labor Day morning.
The California Highway Patrol says two men suffered major injuries as a result of the collision. It was reported at just after 6:00 am Monday. A 31-year-old Brawley resident was driving a John Deere tractor with a rear-attached cultivator. The tractor was traveling southbound on Austin Road, at a slow rate of speed. The CHP says the tractor had the required warning lights and a slow moving vehicle placard in place. As the Jeep approached the tractor, just south of Keystone Road, it failed to slow down, and collided into the rear of the tractor. The Highway Patrol says the tractor driver, identified as M. Cazares, was ejected from the vehicle. He suffered major injuries and was transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital by a co-worker. The Calexico resident, identified only as M. Aleman, also suffered major injuries. He was transported to PMH by Gold Cross Ambulance. The CHP says the collision remains under investigation.
