(IID Board has good news and bad news)…It was concerning the toxic materials spill in the San Juan River in Colorado.
The spill was created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and included several toxins, including arsenic. The bad news at the Imperial Irrigation District Board meeting Tuesday was that the polluted water was flowing towards the Parker Dam. The water from that Dam flows down the Colorado River, providing the water source for the Imperial County. The good news, according to IID Board President Steve Benson, the toxic water will be substantially diluted at Parker Dam, and again at Hoover Dam. Benson said by the time the water reaches Imperial County there should not be much of a problem. The Bureau of Land Management and other agencies will be testing the water periodically to determine the danger levels, if any exist.
