(Bulldog Aquatic Center)…The groundbreaking ceremony was held recently.
By this time next year, it is expected Calexico residents will have a fun and safe place to swim. The public swimming in Calexico was severely damaged by the 2010 magnitude 7.2 earthquake. The City and the Calexico Unified School District agreed to join forces to rebuild a public pool at the High School. Funds, however, have been tight. State Senator Ben Hueso was able to obtain a grant of over $2.7 million. Officials say those funds were enough to make the project a reality. The state of the art facility will consist of three pools, a competition pool, a recreation pool and a kiddy pool. Construction will begin as soon as possible. They expect the recreational facility to open to the public in June 2016.
