(Woman and 4 year old child injured)….It was reported at 5:30 Monday evening.
The California Highway Patrol says the woman, 30-year-old Penina Reyes Martinez of Calexico, was driving a red 1999 Dodge Durango east on Anza Road, west of Bowker Road. The 4 year old was a passenger in the left rear seat. The Highway Patrol says the child was not restrained. The woman allowed the vehicle to run off the road, traveling in a southerly direction toward the US/Mexico Border fence. The Dodge collided with the fence and then collided with a US Border Patrol vehicle that was parked near the fence. A Border Patrol agent from the Calexico Station was inside the Government vehicle at the time. The woman and child both suffered major injuries. The driver was transported to Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs. The child was taken to Rady’s Children’s Hospital in San Diego. The CHP says the woman was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. It is not known if the Border Patrol agent suffered any injuries.
