(Dia De Los Muertos)…Day of the Dead.
It is coming to El Centro. The Day is celebrated in most Latin American Countries, but has never been celebrated in El Centro. The Day is designed to celebrate the lives of departed loved ones, creating elaborate altars to honor them. The City is coordinating with the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico and several volunteers to put together the first Dia De Los Muertos celebration in El Centro. It will be Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Old Post Office Pavilion on South 5th Street. The event is free to the public and will feature the setting of a traditional altar, music, face painting, traditional hot chocolate and pan de muerto. The Mexican Consul in Calexico Carlos Flores Vizcarra will be narrating in English and Spanish the historical value of the Day of the Dead.
