An El Centro Police Officer made a traffic stop Saturday and found more than 18 pounds of methamphetamine.
According to Commander Robert Sawyer . ECPD Officer James Thompson was on patrol with his canine partner Tico when he observed a vehicle code violation with a car in the 1200 block of Pico Avenue. After making a traffic stop , Officer Thompson noticed that the two occupants of the vehicle appeared nervous and gave inconsistent statements. The occupants consented to a search of the vehicle and Tico alerted to the rear of the car. . Officer Thompson searched the vehicle and discovered anomalies with the spare tire. 20 packages of methamphetamine were found in the tire. The meth weighed in excess of 20 pounds and has a street value of over $430,000. The two occupants of the car were questioned further and it was determined one of them was not aware of the drugs and he he was released. The other occupant , 32-year old Gilbert Ochoa of El Centro , was arrested and booked into Imperial County Jail for felony possession and transportation of methamphetamine for sale.
