Ammonia leak sends 4 to the hospital

(Early morning ammonia leak)….A strong smell of ammonia was reported at 12:15 Thursday morning.

Yuma County Fire responded to the call North of Palo Verde street. They suspected a rail car leak. That was not the case. Fire crews were able to locate the leak at True Leaf Farms. The Departments Hazardous Materials Technicians, working with True Leaf Farms staff, isolated the leak and shut down the source. It was found on the roof of one of the Farm’s buildings. The leak was repaired by 3:00 am, but the ammonia odor lingered. Several people at surrounding businesses reported feeling ill from the ammonia odor. Four people were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center as a precaution.
