(Peso devaluation)….Could it hurt the local economy? Some say it already is.
Others say that may be a bit premature. The exchange rate for the peso was recently adjusted from around 12 pesos to the dollar. It is currently around 17 pesos to the dollar. Sources in Calexico say that is the reason for slow sales in the Border City. Others say it is a little early to see a trend. All agree, however, the devaluation could have an impact, not only in Calexico. They say it could spread north, affecting sales in El Centro and possibly even in Brawley.
