Wrong Way Driver Dies PDF Print E-mail

A  woman driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 died Tuesday afternoon when she collided head on with another vehicle. The accident occurred at about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 8 west of the 4th Street exit in El Centro. The woman was apparently eastbound  in the westbound lanes at approximatly 60 miles per hour when she collided head on with a Ford Expedition. According to Officer Wes Boerner of the California Highway Patrol the Expedition apparently bounced up in the air and came down on a westbound pick-up truck before rolling over. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the drivers of the other two trucks were transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center with major injuries. El Centro Police, El Centro Fire Department , Imperial Couinty Sheriffs Office and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Westbound Interstate 8 was shut down for nearly two hours while emergency personel worked to remove the victim from the wreckage of her truck and authorities investigated the accident.
