Water shortage could be declared August 5 PDF Print E-mail

(Shortage Declaration could come in August)….Imperial Irrigation District Director James Hanks said the issue should be discussed at the next Board meeting.

Last year a pilot S D I declaration was issued at this time, only to rescinded at the end of the year. Mike King, IID Water Department Manager, told the District Board Tuesday the water over-run was at over 108,000 acre feet. King said there are rumblings from other Colorado River water users, who are saying the IID is using too much water. King said some are saying the IID allotment should be cut to bring them into compliance. He said fortunately that is a minority opinion, right now. King has put together a Draft of Water Saving actions. Some of the actions will be mandatory and some will be voluntary to bring the District back within their allotment numbers.
