(Drug wars heat up in Baja California)….Tourists are being warned about the violence in the Mexican State.

The latest incident involved the reported head of the Arrellano Felix drug cartel. Carlos Ignacio Acosta Ibarra and another man were found beaten and shot to death this week. The body of another man was found nearby in a burned out car. The three bodies were discovered in an alley near the old road to Tecate on the Tijuana side of the mountains. Only Acosta Ibarra was identified. Known as “El Big Boy”, the victim was once an agent with the State Police in Baja California, before dedicating all his time to the Arrellano Felix cartel. At one time, the cartel controlled most of the illegal drug activity along the U.S./Mexico Border. The cartel was weakened, somewhat, with the arrests and killing of several of the Arrellano Felix brothers.
