(Traffic backed up on Interstate 8 at Ocotillo)…A service vehicle reportedly caught fire in the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 this morning.

The substation for County Fire in Ocotillo responded to the fire. It was extinguished, with no injury to the driver of the service vehicle. The incident blocked both westbound lanes of the Interstate at around 10:00 this morning. Officer Wes Boerner of the California Highway Patrol says the service vehicle was carrying barrels of diesel fuel. He says about 150 gallons spilled onto the Interstate. Boerner said most of the fuel burned off during the fire, but some remained on the roadway. County Fire declared the spill a Hazardous Materials spill and called out the Hazmat team. One lane of the Interstate was closed, creating a back up of about a mile. Traffic was allowed through, but at a very slow pace.
