(Local Supervisor wants list of Union expenditures)…Tuesday the County Board of Supervisors reacted to a newspaper report.

The Los Angeles Times recently published an investigative piece on SEIU. The Union is led by Tyrone Freeman, and it represents most of the In-Home Care workers in Imperial County. The union also led the drive to recall four County Supervisors not long ago. The Times report accuses the union of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on Gold Tournaments, Beverly Hills cigar club membership, a consulting contract with the William Morris Agency. Thousands of dollars were also reportedly awarded to Freeman family members, including his wife, mother in law and brother in law. The newspaper said the figures they quoted come from Labor Department and Internal Revenue documents. Freeman claims the union members benefited from all of his expenditures. District five Supervisor Wally Leimgruber said Tuesday he had contacted the Union and has asked that they provide him with a list of the Union expenditures. County Counsel Michael Rood said he was not sure the union would be legally bound to provide the information requested. He said he would investigate the law and report back next meeting.
