(El Centro police officer stops one suspect and winds up arresting two)….Sergeant Jeff Mason it all happened at around 9:30 Sunday morning.

Officer Jesus Viesca was on patrol in the area of the 1200 block of Adams Avenue. The Officers reportedly spotted 24-year-old Gilberto Martinez near the door of room number 9 at the American Inn. Viesca knew Martinez was on probation and that he had an outstanding arrest warrant. Mason said the officer followed the rules of Martinez’s probation officer and called in additional officers to search the room he was renting. They found the door blocked. Martinez refused to name the person in his room and he refused to call out to the person inside. Officers eventually gained entry. Inside they found 30-year-old Miguel Derma. Viesca recognized Derma and took him into custody without incident. Derma is wanted on five separate warrants alleging fraud. Mason said anybody victimized by Derma’s check cashing scams should contact the El Centro police department. Martinez was also arrested on his warrant, in addition to charges of delaying a peace officer and possession of stolen property.
