(Copper thieves caught in the act)….The County Sheriff’s Office says the owner of a home on West McCabe Road found two men in the process of robbing copper.

The home is being refurbished. Officers say the home owner arrived at the house and discovered the two stripping electrical wire to get to the copper. They were also in the process of removing the air conditioning unit to get to the copper inside. The homeowner was able to hold one of the men at gun point, but the other ran away. Deputies arrested Walter James Petter Jr. Border Patrol Agents reportedly tracked down the second suspect. They detained Ricardo Martinez, and turned him over to the Sheriff’s department. The Imperial Irrigation District has an active campaign underway to capture copper thieves. They are even offering a $2,500 reward for the arrest and conviction of the thieves.
