Callexico, Ca. - United States Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico East port of entry seized more than five tons of marijuana Tuesday. Tuesday evening at about 7:30 a tractor-trailer rig entered the Calexico East port of entry. Officers ordered the big rig to the ports gamma-ray facility for an intensive examination. That examination revealed anomolies in the stated shipment of tools, instruments and parts.The truck was ordered to the dock to off-laod the cargo at which time a green leafy substance was found concealed in the boxes. That substance field tested positive as marijuana. CBP officers found 469 wrapped packages weighing 10,224 pounds. The grass has a street value of $4.6 million.The driver, a 22-year-old Mexican man was arrested by special agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and booked into Imperial County Jail awaiting arraignment. Tuesday seizure follows a seizure of over 7 tons of marijuana concealed in a cargo truck at the same port of entry just 6 weeks ago.
