(Community Assessment Results delivered to the County Supervisors)…The Assessment was conducted by the Nursing Program at San Diego State University/Imperial Valley Campus. The results were delivered to the Board Tuesday by program coordinator Helina Hoyt. She told the Supervisors the results included Positive Findings. Among them are; The Valley is a dynamic rural region with areas for smart growth available, The people of the Valley are open to change, Healthcare agencies are willing to join forces and identify resources for our vulnerabilities, and there are many innovative primary prevention programs, though they are underutilized. Areas of concern include Health Status indicators; cancer, coronary heart disease, unintentional injuries, stroke, diabetes and STD’s. Unemployment and a lack of an educated workforce are also concerns. And the assessment says they found limited health systems, such as rehabilitation, primary healthcare and referral specialists, as well as a lack of behavioral health services. Hoyt said the future of the Valley depends on a thorough assessment of current data. |
