(County agrees to place tax increase on November Ballot)….The half-cent sales tax increase is not new. It is a continuation of Measure “D”, which is sun setting.

The Local Transportation Authority has been renegotiating a continuation of the Measure for almost a year. It was originally passed by voters in 1989 and sunsets in 2009. Adjustments to the L T A recommended ordinance were being made up until the day before the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday. The last adjustment was the addition of a definition. The final definition in the ordinance now reads ‘Total population excludes residents on federal military installations and group quarters’ residents in state mental institutions and state and federal correctional institutions.’ If approved by voters November 8, the Measure could raise up to $1 billion. The funds would continue to pay for street and road repair throughout the County. The continued Measure D would sunset after 40 years.
