(County Emergency Services updates the Supervisors on the quakes)….County Fire Chief Fred Nippon, who also heads the local Emergency Services, said the series of quakes, that began Friday night, are occurring on the Cerro Prieto and Imperial fault lines. The original quake measured 5.4 and occurred at 11:12 Friday night. All the micro, minor and moderate quakes since then are suspected as being after-shocks to the original quake. Nippon said there has been no major damage reported in either Mexicali or Imperial County. District one Supervisor Victor Carrillo said he had learned a couple people in an outlying area of Mexicali had been electrocuted as a result of down power poles in the area. The Chief said a Hospital had evacuated ambulatory patients and schools were dismissed early Monday, but that was only a precaution. He said Mexicali had called in mutual aide from Tijuana, and an engine company from the Calexico Fire Department was sent to Mexicali to assist with building assessment. Nippon said an emergency plan is in place for Imperial County, but so far there has been no need to implement it. |
