(SunEco Energy says it was all a misunderstanding)…County Planning stopped SunEco from grading and digging ponds near Calipatria.

The subsidiary of Global Renewable Energy Systems did not have any permits from the County. Darrell Gardner, Assistant Director for County Planning and Development, said he met with company representatives Thursday. Gardner said he was told the company did not feel they needed permits to grade. They felt their work was similar to a farming project. Gardner explained they did not need a permit for the grading, but they were also digging ponds, and that does require the company go through the permit process. Gardner said the meeting was very cordial and the company representatives indicated they would return Friday to begin the permit process. Gardner said an environmental assessment would be performed to determine if an Environmental Impact Report would be required, before any permits could be issued. In the meantime work near the East Highline Canal Northeast of Calipatria has been put on hold.
