(Storm hits Imperial Counties Westside)…Tuesday afternoon Emergency Alert Systems was activated. A storm system moved in to the west county, with strong, gusty winds, hail and rain.

The Imperial Irrigation District says Westside residents and industry were hurt by the storm. The R-Line, a transmission line that services Coyote Wells, U.S. Gypsum and that area, was damaged. The district re-routed the transmission line to restore power. Three poles were knocked down between Plaster City and Ocotillo. The IID says the rain caused increased run-off into the Westside Main Canal. They said the Canal was not damaged, but the District cut the flow to the Westside Main. They spilled water from the canal in the Dixieland area. Kevin Kelley, Spokesperson for the IID, said most of the damages were repaired, and all services restored.
