Southwest H.S. Student Dies in Crash PDF Print E-mail

A Southwest High School student on her way to school this morning died in a traffic accident. The accident occurred at 8:20 Friday morning at the intersection of Bowker Road and Even Hewes Highway. Eighteen year old Belen Victoria Ramos of rural El Centro , a student at Southwest High School , had just left her nearby home on her way to class. She stopped at the intersection of Bowker Road and Even Hewes Highway and then pulled into the path of a small pickup truck driven westbound on Even Hewes Highway by 21 year old Santiago Fregoso of Holtville. According to Imperial County Deputy Coroner Henry Proo, Ramos sustained fatal injuries on impact. Fregoso recieved minor injuries.  The accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol
