(Human smuggler put away for a while)….Emilio Reyes Bosque was given 17 and a half years in Federal Prison. The sentence was handed down by Judge Roger Benitez in a San Diego Federal Courtroom Monday. The trial determined Reyes was the kingpin of a smuggling organization based in Imperial Valley. The organization smuggled hundreds of illegal migrants for the past several years. As head of the organization, officials say Reyes employed foot guides, load drivers, scouts and caretakers to assist him run his criminal trade. Customs and Border Protection officials say the El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents patiently put together a strong case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in an investigation that was developed over a two-year period. In December 2005, three smuggled aliens escaped one of Reyes’ load houses in Brawley to seek medical attention for an ailing parent. The three reportedly encountered Border Patrol agents in downtown Brawley. They related the horrible conditions at the house. Later that morning agents entered the house and freed 18 people illegally smuggled into the United States. |
