Six Smuggling Attempts Stopped At Border |

Calexico - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the downtown port of entry stopped six smuggling attempts in three days last week.
On Thursda August 7th at about 11:00 in the morning a 37-year old Mexican citizen driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was diverted to secondary inspection after a canine alerted on the vehicle during a pre-primary operaton. In the secondary lot, an intensive examination located 25 wrapped packages of cocaine in a non-factory compartment in the cargo area of the truck.The 62 pounds of cocaine has a street value of nearly $500,000. Twenty minutes later a 39-year old Mexican citizen driving a 2002 Toyota 4Runner was arrested after 46 pounds of cocaine was found hidden in the SUV. Street value in this seizure is over $350,000. At about 1:30 that afternoon a 2002 Ford Focus was found to have 48 pounds of cocaine hidden in a wheel well. The driveer , a 28-year old woman from Calexico , was arrested. The street value of the drugs was estimated at nearly $400,000. Saturday morning at about 9:30 a 21-year old female Mexican citizen was arrested after 66 pounds of cocaine , valued at over $500,00 , was found hidden in the 2008 Nissan Rogue she was driving. Saturday night at about 8:45 a 2005 Toyota Camry was escorted to secondary inspection where a canine alerted to narcotics. 19 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of over $200,000 was located in a hidden compartment in the trunk. The driver , a 28-year old U.S. citizen from Riverside , was arrested. The most recent seizure occurred Sunday evening at 6:00 when a 2000 Ford F-250 was referred to secondary inspection. 13 pounds of methamphetamine valued at nearly $150,000 was found hidden in the vehicles rear differential. A 33-year old Mexicali man was arrested Officials say a total of seven arrests were made and over $2 million worth of drugs were confiscated. |
