(Parking is free in Calexico Commercial areas)…The Calexico City Council gave shoppers a Christmas present Tuesday night.

The Council agreed to suspend the City Ordinance covering parking meters in commercial areas. At the request of City Manager Ralph Velez, the Council agreed there would be no enforcement of the parking meters from December 5 through January 1, 2008. Also at the meeting the Council agreed to add two more cross walks. At the request of a parents group from Jefferson Elementary School, the Council agreed to install the two new cross walks at the corner of 5th and Andrade and a half block east of that corner. They also agreed to add another Holiday celebration. The Winter Wonderland Fair will be held December 21-23 at Rockwood Plaza. A Parade of Lights is still scheduled for Thursday, and the annual Calexico Christmas Parade will be held Saturday.
