The El Centro Police Department conducted a compliance check of registered sex offenders in the city.
Detectives from the El Centro Police Department along with investigators from the Imperial County District Attorneys Office and Special Agents from the California Department of Justice last week conducted compliance checks of registered sex offenders in El Centro. According to Sgt Jeff Mason of the El Centro Police Department, 39 contacts were made and 14 offenders were found to be out of compliance. According to Mason registered sex offenders are given a 10 day window in which to register annually, 5 days before through 5 days after their birth date. Mason added, " Most offenders found out of compliance say they simply forgot to register." Mason went on to say, " While our investigations continue, we are requesting certified copies of the out of compliance ofender's records so we can file criminal cases against those people. El Centro Police expect the operation to wrap up sometime in June. with criminal filings and arrests of those registrants found to be out of compliance. |
