(Excessive heat results in death in Imperial County)….Deputy Coroner Henry Proo says since August 17th he has investigated 14 deaths in Imperial County.

Proo says 9 of those may have been heat related. He says of those nine, the cause of death for five was directly caused by the heat. Proo says these numbers do not include the death of Juliesa Flores, whose body was found this week in the back of a car and abandoned in El Centro. The Deputy Coroner says it is suspected Flores died from the heat, but an official determination will be made following an autopsy Friday. The excessive heat may be over. Meteorologist Jim Christopherson said Imperial County will be experiencing lower temperatures. He said the one hundred teens might be over for the year. Precautions still are recommended. Those without air-conditioning should find a cool place to stay, and they should remain hydrated by drinking  a lot of water. Illegal immigrants should avoid crossing into the desert, and they should avoid smugglers at all costs.
