(Probation Officer to be laid rest Friday)… Irene Rios was killed in a traffic accident August 13. Viewing is tonight at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, 560 Maple Avenue in Holtville. The viewing will be from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Services will be at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 795 South La Brucherie, El Centro, beginning at 9:00 am. Internment immediately follows at Terrace Park Cemetery, 1550 Zenos Road in Holtville. Flowers should be sent to Hems Brothers Mortuary, 1975 South 4^th Street, El Centro. A memorial fund has been established. Contributions will be accepted at; Irene Rios Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Sun Community Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 4210, El Centro, California, 92243. The 28 year old worked at County Probation for six years. She became a Deputy Probation Officer in 2005. The year she was assigned to the Placement Unit, where she provided supervision and services to minors in out-of-home placements. She was on her way to a placement visit in Sacramento at the time of the tragic accident on Interstate 8 Mountain Springs Grade. Irene Rios was the first female officer killed on the job in Imperial County.
