(A Special Service for Irene Rios being planned)….The 28 year old Probation Officer was killed in a traffic accident Wednesday morning.

Chief Probation Officer Mike Kelley says his staff is working with the Rios family to coordinate a special service in her honor. Kelley says he expects a Peace Officer Memorial Service to be held some time next week. He said not date has been set. The Chief said the Governor has ordered flags to fly at half-mast in the State Capital. Flags are at half-mast in Imperial County, and they will remain that way until the day of the services. The State Capital flag will be presented to the Rios Family. Officer Rios had worked with Probation for 6 years. In 2008, she was assigned to the Placement Unit, where she provided supervision and services to minors in out-of-home placements. She was on her way to a placement visit when the accident occurred. The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the tragedy.
