(Fish and Wildlife says the Big Horns don’t need so much protection area)….The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released its economic analysis of proposed changes to protections for the Big Horn Sheep. They will hold two public hearings to take comments on their proposal. The Service proposes reducing the Big Horn Protection area from the current 815,000 acres to around 400,000. They say some of the current land is otherwise protected and some of the land is just not critical habitat. Their study determines it will cost around $411,000 to manage the protected area for the next 20 years. Both public hearings will be held September 10 at the Living Desert Zoo in Palm Desert. The first at 1:00 in the afternoon and the second will be at 6:00 that evening. |
