El Centro Police arrested an 18-year-old man wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred July 13, 2008. At about 12:15 this afternoon Officer Jesus Gonzales of the El Centro Police Department was patrolling near 4th and Ross in El Centro when he saw a pedestrian who he thought looked similar to the suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery at the USA Gas Station at 4th and Broadway in El Centro..As the officer approached the pedestrian, later identified as Mario Espinosa ,18 , of El Centro, the man took off running. Gonzales and Officer Adrian Hirales , who was in the area , chased down Espinosa on foot. During an interview with detectives Espinosa confessed to the gas station robbery. The weapon , a air soft gun , has not been recovered. Espinosa was booked into Imperial County Jail on a single count of armed robbery. Bail was set at $100,000.
