(Imperial Irrigation District’s first reward is presented)…The reward and a plaque of recognition was given at Tuesday’s IID Board meeting.

Because of several incidents of aluminum delivery gates being stolen, the IID offered a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for the thefts. The District says on March 31 of this year a Mexican Customs official, Baltazar Rocha Barajas, contacted the IID about a suspect he had apprehended crossing the international border into Mexico. The suspect was in possession of an undetermined amount of metal canal gates. It was determined the gates had been stolen from the Imperial Irrigation District. Due to information provided by Rocha Barajas, the suspect was arrested, prosecuted and convicted of grand theft. The Customs official was not able to attend the ceremony Tuesday. Raul Blancas accepted the check for $2,500 and the large plaque of appreciation for Baltazar Rocha Barajas.
