(Top election official predicts a good voter turn-out)…Registrar of voters Dolores Provincio said Tuesday morning she was being optimistic, and hopeful the City Council Races will bring out the voters. Provincio said she is predicting a 45 % voter turnout when all ballots are counted Tuesday night. She said the City Council races in El Centro, Brawley and in Calipatria normally draw a lot of interest. She said Brawley and El Centro have the largest number of registered voters. Provincio says the Imperial Valley College Board of Trustee races usually draw a lot of interest, as well. She said her elections department sent out over 16,000 vote by mail ballots, and now they have to be returned. Those who still have vote by mail ballots need take them to their polling places or to the elections department in El Centro. As usual, Provincio said it was a bit difficult recruiting enough poll workers. She said it has become routine to have some volunteer poll workers back out at the last minute. Provincio said she likes to staff each polling place with 4 trained volunteers. She said some polling places this election only have 3 workers. She said 3 trained poll workers are adequate. The polls are open until 8:00 this evening. Absentee ballot results should be available shortly after the polls close, with regular updates after that until an unofficial total is available. K X O Radio will be broadcasting from the elections department. Results will also be available on the election department website, as well as on the K X O website. |
