(Red Cross preparing to train volunteers)…The San Diego/Imperial County Chapters of the American Red Cross want to train volunteer disaster workers for victims of Hurricane Gustav.

They would also be prepared to assist in upcoming Hurricane disaster operations. The volunteers will be highly selected and put through intensive training in San Diego. They would then be deployed to the affected areas as needed. The volunteers deployed would be working in Mass Care, providing sheltering to evacuees and those displaced from their homes. Those selected would have to be available immediately and for at least 5 weeks for training and deployment. The American Red Cross is working with Volunteer San Diego to facilitate registration. Interested volunteers should go to the Volunteer San Diego website at www.volunteersandiego.org and click of Hurricane Gustav Response to register and review the requirements.
