(Red Cross still helping fire victims)…The Local American Red Cross is very busy manning shelters and taking care of evacuees of the San Diego wildfires. An earlier report on donations may have added to their workload.

Sylvia Preciado, Executive Director of the local Red Cross says her office is just not equipped to handle bulk donations. She says blankets, clothing and other similar donations are appreciated, but should be directed to the Salvation Army. She says those concerned with donating to the Red Cross should go to the website and make a monetary donation to the Red Cross relief fund. Preciado said this ensures relief is distributed equally to all who need it. She said the donated funds go to pay for shelters, food, counseling and other similar types of assistance. She says the bulk donations are certainly needed, but should be directed to the Salvation Army, who are better prepared to handle and distribute them to those most in need.
