(Imperial Irrigation District Board not unanimous on new ECAC)….A reconstituted Energy Consumers Advisory Committee was part of a six-point energy action plan negotiated in April of this year.

IID General Manager Brian Brady negotiated the plan with Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia. The Assemblywoman had threatened legislation detrimental to the IID, if energy customers in the Coachella Valley were not given some type of representation. It was agreed to reconstitute the ECAC to include 10 IID Board appointees and an equal number named by the cities of Indio, Coachella, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage and three at large appointments made by Riverside County Supervisor Roy Wilson. Brady presented the names of the new committee members at this weeks IID Board meeting. District Director Jim Hanks was not happy that one of Wilson’s appointees did not reside in the IID service area. Director Stella Mendoza said she agreed with Hanks. She asked that The Riverside Supervisor appoint someone else. IID spokesperson Kevin Kelley told the Board residency was never a stipulation of the agreement. The vote was 3-1 to accept the new ECAC. Hanks voted against it. The reconstituted committee will be seated at the next ECAC meeting on November 3.
