(It looks like Imperial County will keep 760)….When the Public Utility Commission meets Thursday they will be considering a different recommendation. A recent conference call was made to commissioner Simon. The El Centro, Brawley and Imperial Chambers of Commerce participated in the call. Simon told them that local comments must have been listened to. Simon had pulled the item from a previous agenda for further study. It was rescheduled for the April 24 P U C meeting agenda. The Commissioner told the Chambers of Commerce the recommendation is now that the Split Alternative #1 be considered. That alternative is for Imperial County remain whole with the 760 area code. Simon, however, said he wants the recommendation changed, and may pull the item again on Thursday. Simon favors an overlay plan. That plan would mean the area code remain the same, but all new numbers would be given a new area code. That would mean ten digit dialing within Imperial County. It is suggested that those who want the P U C to approve the recommended alternative to e-mail the Commission at cpuc.ca.gov and let them know before Thursdays meeting. |
