(Officials asking residents to stay away from personal fireworks)…..For the most part, personal fireworks are illegal in Imperial County and Arizona. There are, however, a few places where they can be purchased. Sales are still legal in Calipatria, the Quechan Tribal reservation and in Mexico. Local and state officials are asking the public to stay away from the personal fireworks, even in areas where they are legal. The Governor has issued a statement asking the public not to set-off personal fireworks anywhere in the state. He said the extremely warm weather has created a very sensitive fire danger all across the state. Locally officials say there are plenty of public fireworks displays that there is no need for personal fireworks. The public is being asked to enjoy the events scheduled in Calipatria, Paradise Casino or Freedom Fest at Imperial Valley College. The officials are reminding those who will insist on setting off their own fireworks, they are subject to a fine of up to $1,000 if they are caught shooting of the fireworks anywhere except where they are legal. Customs and Border Protection officials say they are making an extra effort to confiscate any type of fireworks from coming across the border. |
