(Calexico Police Chief his department is looking into several twists in Wednesday’s Murder/Suicide)….Chief Jim Neuhjar Said Thursday several details cannot be discussed this early in the investigation.
Police were called to a house in the 100 block of John F. Kennedy at around 1:00 Wednesday afternoon. They were responding to a report of shots being fired. When officers arrived, they found a two and a half-year old girl and her 29-year-old father shot dead. The family dog was also killed. The Chief says the father, Saul Israel Burquez Pacheco, had gone to court Wednesday morning to respond to a restraining order requested by his estranged wife. The Judge in the case reportedly upheld the order, which meant Burquez had to leave his job as a security guard. Neuhjar said the Judge ordered Burquez to relinquish his equipment, including the firearm he used on the job. The Chief says the man arranged to turn in his equipment, but it never happened. Instead, Burquez went home, asked his sister to go shopping and take his small daughter with her. The Daughter apparently created a scene, and the sister left alone. Shortly after three shots rang out. Responding police found the child, Burquez and the family dog dead from a single gunshot wound apiece. Neuhjar says contrary to initial reports, Burquez was not in danger of losing his daughter. He says the mother of the two and a half year old was killed in a traffic accident almost 2 years ago. She was not the child of the woman divorcing Burquez. The Chief says investigators do not believe Wednesday’s court decision was the reason for the tragic events, but that other indicators may have put him in that position. Neuhjar says those indicators are being investigated and cannot be discussed at this time. Deputy Coroner Henry Proo says an autopsy on the victims will be held Friday. |
