Police disburse irate seniors at Council meeting PDF Print E-mail

(It looked like a senior revolt at the Calexico City Council meeting)….Several seniors were upset because the City Council did not agree with them.

The elderly residents apparently did not understand “conflict of interest.” Tuesday night the Council agreed to award a five-year contract to First Transit to provide services under the Dial-A-Ride program. The seniors wanted the contract to go to Elite Transportation. The majority of the Council had a problem with that because, up until just before the Council meeting started, Elite belonged to Councilman Luis Castro. The Councilman signed control of the company over to his son Jovan about an hour before the meeting began. The seniors became so rowdy, Mayor Louis Fuentes had the police called to break up the group. When officers arrived, the seniors left without incident. The five-year agreement with First Transit also has an option for a five-year extension.
