Phone service will be out until around 11:00 am

(Phone service should be restored by 11:00 am)….El Centro City Manager Ruben Duran and El Centro Fire Chief Petree spoke with K X O this morning. They said the telephone service began disappearing at around 5:30 Wednesday morning. By 8:30 most cell phone service had returned. Chief Petree said his department was in contact with AT&T and were told trunk service should be restored sometime between 10:00 am and 11:00 am. They did not say why the service went out. They said anyone with any emergency should contact any of the two fire stations in person, drive to El Centro Regional Medical Center or waive down a Police Unit. The Police Department in El Centro has held over the over-night shift, and have doubled the patrols on the street. Petree says the Counties Emergency 800 megahertz communications system is operating as expected, and has worked fine throughout the situation. The Chief said his department is in communication with emergency departments around the County. He said the phone problem is intermittent Countywide.
