(One of the most energetic and likable World War Two Veterans has passed on)….By all accounts, James Patterson was one of the most knowledgeable people on World War Two history of the Pacific Theatre, especially the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle at Midway.

Pat Patterson personally experienced both historical events as a member of the crew on the U.S.S. Yorktown. In his latter years he was a tireless fundraiser for all Veteran’s causes in Imperial County. Mr. Patterson passed away Sunday at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley. He was 87. A long time Imperial resident, his wife Edna and daughter Deborah, both of Imperial, and his son James who resides in Florida, survive Mr. Patterson. Visitation is Thursday, at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Military services will be held on Friday at Saint Anthony’s Church in Imperial starting at 10:00 am. A Memorial Fund has been set-up for the Patterson family. To raise money for the fund a Fish Taco/Carne Asada fundraiser has been scheduled for May 30 at the Veteran’s Hall in Imperial, at 4:00 pm. Cost will be $7.00 per plate. A Pancake Breakfast will also be held at Applebee’s in El Centro on May 31 from 8:00 to 9:30 am. The special breakfast will include two pancakes, 2 strips of bacon and coffee, for $5.00. Donations are also being accepted at the Sun Community Federal Credit Union in Imperial. Donations should be made to the V F W-Patterson Memorial Fund at the Credit Union. All proceeds from the fundraisers go to the Patterson family.
