(Water picture getting better)….Not long ago Imperial Irrigation District reported an over-run of over 100,000 acre-feet of water.

The over-run was attributed to water intensive crops, such as wheat, planted around the County. The over-run was so bad, the District Board declared an anticipated shortage, and set in motion plans for equitable distribution. This week it was reported the over-run situation had gotten much better. Staff told the Board Tuesday the over-run was being reported at 51,000-acre feet. That is still high, but it is even better than the 56,000 acre feet of water over-run reported this time last year. Last year an equitable distribution plan was set-up, but was not needed because of a late year rain that made up the over-run.
