(California Highway Patrol reports one fatality and several DUI arrests over Memorial Day Weekend)…Officer Wes Boerner said even though the Highway Patrol was out if force over the holiday weekend, so were the drunk drivers.

Boerner says arrests were up slightly this year as compared to last year. As of mid-night Tuesday morning 21 drunk drivers were arrested in the El Centro Sector. The three-day holiday period started at 6:00 pm Friday. During that period only one fatal injury accident was investigated. A Mexicali man apparently ran the stop sign at Highway 98 and Farrell Road. His vehicle was t-boned. The man suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity cannot be released until the County Coroners office notifies his family. There were three injuries in the other vehicle. They were all taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment. The fatal injury accident was reported at close to 1:30 Monday afternoon.
