(Hospital join forces with March Of Dimes)….The Entities have come together to promote Prematurity Awareness Month.

 El Centro Regional Medical Center hosted the kick-off event Monday. Maria Peinado, March of Dimes Chair for the Imperial County Preemie Family Council, says it is important for the County to do more to help moms have healthy, full term babies. Peinado says the goal is to get the crisis of premature birth on the nations health care agenda. The local March of Dimes says in one year in Imperial County, 3,127 babies are born. 362 are born prematurely. 806 women receive late or no prenatal care. 194 babies are born at a low birth weight. 95 babies are born with a birth defect. 19 babies do not live to see their first birthday. 477 babies are born to teen mothers.
